Denny Campbell will have Meadville Boys Basketball on KRLI 103.9 at 12:45pm today as Meadville will take on Scott County for the state title.

Georges Niang scored 25 points before leaving with a bloody gash to his forehead in the closing minutes, and No. 16 Iowa State held on to beat No. 10 Kansas 94-83 Friday night and reach its first Big 12 tournament title game since 2000. Perry Ellis led Kansas (24-9) with 30 points. Andrew Wiggins finished with 22.

ATLANTA (AP) — Scottie Wilbekin scored 15 points and No. 1 Florida remained unbeaten in the Southeastern Conference, using one of its customary spurts to rout Missouri 72-49 in the quarterfinals of the league tournament Friday.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Dan Straily worked four promising innings, Derek Norris and Michael Taylor homered and the Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals played to a 9-9 tie in nine innings Friday. Justin Maxwell went 3 for 4 with a double and drove in two Royals’ runs. Francisco Pena homered on a full-count pitch with two out in the ninth to tie the game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs filled one of their pressing needs by signing former Raiders defensive tackle Vance Walker to a three-year contract on Friday. The Chiefs also announced the signing of linebacker Frank Zombo, who had agreed to terms earlier in the week. Zombo appeared in 16 games for Kansas City last season.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Denny Hamlin has earned the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Bristol with a track-record performance in knockout qualifying. Hamlin turned a lap at 129.991 mph to earn the top starting spot, edging Brad Keselowski. Matt Kenseth qualified third, followed by Joey Logano and Marcos Ambrose.

Golf

Robert Garrigus (GAR’-ih-guhs) fired a 5-under 66 to build a three-shot lead going into the weekend at the PGA’s Valspar Championship.

Garrigus was at 7-under 135. He was three shots ahead of Kevin Na.
