>>Columbia National Beats Carroll Co.

The Carroll County v. Columbia National Little League 9 and 10-year-old softball game Sunday night was called off in the fourth inning after a widespread power outage in Concordia.  Columbia got the win 13-5.  This was Carroll County’s third and final game in the state championship tournament.  They lost to Webb City on Friday 16-11 and Perryville on Saturday 12-4.  The 3-0 Columbia National team will take on the 2-1 Webb City team for the championship game Monday at 7 p.m. in Concordia.

>>LaCoMo Central Girls Advances to Regional Tournament

The LaCoMo Central 13-14 year old Girls won the State Championship in Festus, Mo. and are now moving on to Ohio for the Regional Tournament.  LaCoMo will play the Kentucky State Champion on Saturday, August 3rd.

>>LaCoMo Boys Play in Michigan

In Boys Little League Intermediate (12-13 year old), LaCoMo East is playing in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but there are no reports from their games yet.  They were rained out Saturday and were to play on Sunday.

>>Tigers Trounce Royals

(Kansas City, MO)  —  Doug Fister tossed six innings of one-run ball as the Tigers topped the Royals 4-1 in Kansas City.  James Shields allowed three runs in seven innings for the loss.  He was slammed with a line drive on his left thigh in the seventh inning in yesterday’s loss.  Shields doesn’t expect to miss his next start.  Miguel Tejada hit a solo homer for KC.

(Kansas City, MO)  —  After taking two of three from the Tigers, Kansas City looks to continue to build momentum.  The Royals play the first of four tonight against the Orioles.  KC is 45-and-50.  They send Wade Davis to the hill.  Baltimore counters with Scott Feldman.

>>Cardinals Tip Padres

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Adam Wainwright pitched eight strong innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts, leading the Cardinals over the Padres 3-2 at Busch Stadium.  Wainwright leads the National League in wins with 13.  David Freese had two hits and drove in a pair of runs and Edward Mujica [[ moo-HEE-cuh ]] pitched out of a jam in the ninth inning to earn his 28th save.  Mujica got help from a catch at the wall from Allen Craig that took away what could have been an extra-base hit.

>>Cardinals Draw Philly Next

(St. Louis, MO)  —  The Cardinals host the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series beginning tonight.  St. Louis split a four-game series in Philadelphia earlier this season.  Shelby Miller gets the start for the Birds in the series opener.

>>Chiefs Rookies Report To Camp

(St. Joseph’s, MO)  —  Anticipation is high as Andy Reid’s first training camp as Chiefs head coach is set to kick off.  Rookies and quarterbacks report to Missouri Western State University today.  The rest of the veterans are due on Thursday.

>>Rams Camp Under Way

(Earth City, MO)  —  Rams training camp has begun at Rams Park.  Rookies reported Sunday and veterans are due to arrive by Wednesday.  St. Louis has added linebacker Will Witherspoon on a one-year deal.  Witherspoon last played with the Rams in 2009 before going to Tennessee.
