(Kansas City, MO)  —  Josh Reddick, Jed Lowrie and Eric Sogard accounted for five runs with a home run each as the Athletics powered past the Royals 10-4 at Kauffman Stadium.  The Royals got home runs from George Kottaras and Alex Gordon in the loss.  Starting pitcher Luis Mendoza couldn’t make it out of the second inning as he allowed five runs on five hits to drop to 2-and-5.

(Bronx, NY)  —  Coming off dropping two of the three to Oakland the Royals head to the Bronx to take on the Yankees for four beginning tonight.  Kansas City is 41-and-44.  They send Jeremy Guthrie to the hill who will be opposed by Phil Hughes.

>>Cardinals Edge Marlins

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Matt Holliday hit a solo home run and Lance Lynn tossed seven strong innings as the Cardinals edged the Marlins, 3-2, to complete at three-game sweep at Busch Stadium.  Lynn gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out seven to earn his first win since June 20.  He is now 11-and-3.  Carlos Beltran had two hits and stole home for the Cardinals, winners of four of their last five games.  Edward Mujica [[ Moo-HEE-Caw ]] worked a perfect ninth inning for his 23rd save of the season.

(St. Louis, MO)  — The Cards get a day off today before the Houston Astros come to town to start a two-game series tomorrow.  Recently named National League All-Star Adam Wainwright gets the start in the series opener.  Wainwright is 11-and-5 with a 2-point-36 earned run average this season and the Cardinals have won four of their last five games.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina believes a little rest is all he needs after an MRI exam on his right knee showed inflammation. He’s hopeful of being back in the lineup tomorrow. Molina said the knee had been bothering him for a month but felt worse Friday, so the team sent him for medical tests.

>>All-Star Roster Announced

(Undated)  —  Five Cardinals and two Royals are heading to the All-Star Game.  Yadier Molina was elected as the starter at catcher while Carlos Beltran will also start in the outfield.  Second baseman Matt Carpenter and first baseman Allen Craig are also on the roster, as is pitcher Adam Wainwright.  The two Royals representative on the American League squad are outfielder Alex Gordon and catcher Salvador Perez, who are both reserves.  The game will be played a week from tomorrow at Citi Field in New York.
