Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer as the Kansas City Royals completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 6-3 win yesterday. The Royals extended their season-high win streak to seven games. James Shields pitched out of trouble throughout his outing…and got his 8th win.
Matt Adams homered for the third time in three games to help the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-2 victory and series sweep yesterday over the Washington Nationals. Jaime Garcia pitched seven innings. He struck out six and walked two. Trevor Rosenthal got the final out for his 20th save.

Jimmie Johnson won for the third time in four races by finally conquering Michigan International Speedway. Johnson surged ahead with about 10 laps remaining and held off Kevin Harvick to earn his first victory in 25 career starts at MIS. Brad Keselowski finished third after two straight runner-up showings at Dover and Pocono.
