In High School baseball Green Ridge topped Smithton 6 – 3.  We appreciate Smithton Coach Richie Pond sending that score in.

The Linn County varsity boys beat Southwest Ludlow 16 -1.  The JV contest went to Southwest Ludlow 5 – 4 over Linn County.

Leeton took a win 12 – 2 in 5 innings versus Lakeland in varsity softball.  Leeton Senior Megan Uptegrove collects career strikeout #600 in victory.

Leeton Lady Bulldog seniors Megan Uptegrove (left) and Mallory Early (right) were named to this years’ high school softball Academic All-State First Team.

Both have led the Lady Bulldogs on and off the softball field during their high school years. Both will graduate in May at the very top of their class. Megan plans to attend UCM in Warrensburg and would like to double major in Nursing and Spanish. Mallory plans to head south to Springfield to attend college where she plans to major in photography, specializing in livestock with a vision of owning her own business in the not so distant future.


Lincoln High School Golf

Lincoln, Smithton and Stover played golf Tuesday April 10th at Sycamore Creek Golf Course in Osage Beach. Lincoln took first with a score of 199, Stover took second with a 206 and Smithton only had 3 players record a score.  Christian Hoagland from Lincoln was medalist shooting a 41.  Terry Bickers of Lincoln, and Dexter Case of Smithton both tied for runner up posting 43’s.


An announcement was made Tuesday that Breckenridge will not have varsity boys basketball in the upcoming school year.  They wanted to make a broad announcement for schools that have them on the schedule.  Again Breckenridge will not play boys varsity basketball in the 2012-2013 school year.

Norborne “Chute” Camp coming in July

The “Chute” basketball camp is coming to Norborne High School this summer.

The “Chute” basketball camp will be held July 9th and 10th at the Norborne High School gym, which features air conditioning.

4th through 8th grade students will participate from 12:30 – 3:30 each afternoon, while students in grades 9th – 12th are scheduled from 8:30 – 11:30 both mornings. Those grades reflect what class the student will be entering for the 2012-2013 school year.

The camp costs $60, with a deposit of $20 due by April 18th. For more information contact Norborne AD Michael Lock at 660-593-3319. Informational pamphlets regarding the camp are available at the Norborne school and at the KMZU studios.

I know it is early and many of you are just finishing up great seasons but am starting to get calls about the Phoenix Team Camp held at Meadville. My mourning period is over and it is time to start thinking about summer basketball.  The dates are June 7,8,11,12.  You can also access us at to check on the camp. I look forward to another fun 4 days as 2 of the teams that came last year are in the final 4. Congrats to Salisbury and Glasgow for great seasons!! The Central 65 Shootout is on again this year at Tina-Avalon.  The girls shootout is June 28th, followed by the boys on the 29th.  There are four spots open for both girls and boys, first come first served.  The camp costs $115 for 4 games.  A concession stand will operate during the day.  Contact Chris Sander at Tina-Avalon to get signed up.

We are going to once again have the Central 65 Shootout at Tina-Avalon. Our girls shootout will be on June 28 and the boys on June 29. We have 4 spots open for both girls and boys. We will take the first 4 girls teams and the first 4 boys teams. Cost of the camp will be $115 for 4 games. We will also have a concession stand running during the day. It will be 16 min running clock halves. The clock will stop the last minute of the game if the score is 10 pts or less. We will play each foul in the last minute as a 1 in 1 situation.  Otherwise it is High School rules.

The Cardinal Basketball Team Camp is coming up in Hale.  Girls dates will be June 20th and 21st, with the boys camp June 22nd and 23rd.  4 games for $140 each additional game after is $30.  If you want less than 4 games we will charge $40 per game.
