The Class 3 District 15 ladies semi-finals took place Wednesday night at Richmond High School; KMZU’s Mike Stone filed this report…

The first game was between the Brookfield Lady Bulldogs and Penney Hamilton Lady Hornets. Penny Hamilton defeated Carrollton Monday night 67-19 to move into the semi-finals; the Lady Bulldogs got a big upset win over Lafayette County C-1 Monday, 61-59.

As the game began Brookfield showed they were drained from that big win as they were outscored in the first half 43-9, actually being shut out in the first quarter.

Penney Hamilton relentlessly pressured Brookfield into turn-over after turn-over throughout the contest and went on to win 63-24.

Brookfield was led in scoring by Senior Amanda Slater with 7 followed by freshman Amy Speichinger with six and contributions of three from Amanda Hedrick and Sydney Thompson. The Lady Bulldogs end their season at 10-17.

Junior Ellsie Greenwood led the Penney Hamilton charge with 20 points followed by Freshman Morgan Prather with 17. Prather was all over the court winning offensive and defensive rebounds and playing tough underneath. Senior Katrina Grossman put up ten and contributions came from Molly Ward, Kathleen Clevenger, Paige Kline and Erin Finch. The Lady Hornets go into the finals Friday sitting at 24-3.

Their opponent was determined in the second game of the night between The Lawson Lady Cardinals and St. Paul Lutheran Lady Saints. Lawson came into the contest at 22-4 after defeating Lexington Monday night 63-34. The Lady Saints earned their semi-final appearance with a win over Richmond 43-32.

From the opening tip off Lawson took control and never relinquished the lead. St. Paul was troubled all night by strong defense from Kayla Glenn and MacKenzie McNeely, who forced multiple turnovers. At the half the Lady Saints trailed Lawson 40-14.

St. Paul came out fired up at the beginning of the second half, but that energy dissipated as Lawson continued to force turnovers and make critical shots from the foul line. St. Paul could never close within less than 20 and fell to the Lady cardinals 62-34.

St. Paul’s scoring leader Junior Marissa Brackman had 12, followed by Junior Nicole Mueller with six. Contributions also came from Chelsea Nebel, Gabrielle Kueck, Suzanne Allen, Breanna Voglesmeier Tiffany Bennett, Devon Heins and Madison Pitsch. The Lady Saints end their season at 12-13.

The Lady Cardinals were led by Senior Mackenzie McNeely with 15, Kayla Glenn put up 14; and ten points came from Janee Kassanavoid. Practically every other team member had at least two points. The Lady Cardinals will now play Friday night against Penney Hamilton for the Class 3 District 15 Ladies Championship ; tip off will be at 5:30.

Thursday night will see the boy’s semi-final bracket with Lawson vs. Richmond at 5:30 and Lafayette County vs. Carrollton in the late game at Richmond High School.
