Norborne Pirate junior golf standout Ross Lyon is headed to the Class 1 state tournament in Nixa. Ross will tee off Monday (5/14) at Fremont Hills. The 36 hole state golf championship tournament is played Monday and Tuesday. Norborne AD Michael Lock will be calling in updates on how Ross does at state.

Mason Karnes, a sophomore at Orrick, qualified for the Class 1 state tournament May 14-15 at Fremont Hills Golf Course in Nixa, Mo. Our thanks to Curtis Karnes for sending in that update.

A Collegiate All-Stars Basketball Clinic is coming to Chillicothe High School May 24th and 25th. The Clinic will emphasize the fundamentals of shooting and ball handling.

Directing the Clinic will be David Devaney, former head college and high school basketball coach in Missouri, and current teacher and coach in the Kansas City area. Current players from the University of Missouri basketball team will also be helping with the Clinic.

The two-day Clinic is co-ed and costs $70 per player. Players going into grades 3 – 6 in the fall of 2012 will have their Clinic from 10am – noon, players going into grades 7 – 12 will be from 2 – 4 p.m. on May 24th and 25th. The fee includes a t-shirt, a basketball and an autograph session with the coaches and players. All Clinic sessions will take place at Chillicothe High School.

The sponsoring organization of the Chillicothe Mudcats, Grand River Entertainment, is looking for host families to house the players and coaches. The Chillicothe Mudcats are a wood bat collegiate baseball team, that begins playing near the end of May and their season continues through mid to late July. John Barnes is one of the host families. North Central Missouri College in Trenton accepted the resignation of its women’s softball coach last week, and a regional search is underway to name a replacement. NCMC has a strong women’s softball tradition. The Lady Pirates have finished in second or third place in their Region 16 tournament many times and earned a trip to the NJCAA Division I National Softball Tournament in 2004. Thirty-four players in recent years have been named Academic All-Americans and several have continued their softball careers at four-year universities and into the coaching profession.

The softball coaching position is open immediately. It consists of head coach responsibilities for the softball program along with teaching in the physical education and health areas. It is a full-time tenure-track faculty position.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Alcides Escobar hit an RBI-double in the fourth inning last night that led the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. Starter Bruce Chen allowed three runs over six-plus innings to pick up his first victory of the season. The Royals beat Boston starter Jon Lester for the first time since August 2006.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Royals pitcher Jonathan Sanchez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with left biceps tendinitis. Kansas City recalled second baseman Johnny Giavotella to take the vacant roster spot. The Royals acquired Sanchez in an offseason trade with the San Francisco Giants.

PHOENIX (AP) — Pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter’s go-ahead double in the sixth inning helped the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 last night. Allen Craig homered and David Freese racked up three hits for the Cardinals, who won their fourth straight. Jason Motte pitched the ninth for his sixth save.

The Royals and Cardinals are both off tonight.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The NHL Board of Governors has unanimously approved the sale of the St. Louis Blues to a group headed by beer distributor Tom Stillman. The league announced the approval yesterday. The Stillman group will become the eighth owner of the blues since the franchise began in 1966.

Jeff Frampton

Chillicothe Hy-Vee Deli Manager Jeff Frampton hit a hole in one earlier this week during league play at Green Hills Golf Course.

His ace came with an 8 iron on the 11th hole.

Frampton was playing on the Lauhoff Jewelry team with Darren Lauhoff and Keith Kepner.

It was Frampton’s first ever hole in one.
