The signup deadline has been extended for football in Richmond until August 5th. The cost is $60 for football and $40 for cheerleading. Practices for some teams could start as early as this week. Registration is underway now for the Norborne Soybean Festival 5k coming up August 11th. The sign up will be at 7:30 with the race starting at 8:30. The timing will be computerized, and the course is all flat. The registration deadline is August 3rd and the 20 dollar entry fee includes a t-shirt. All proceeds benefit the Norborne Athletic Department. Registration forms are available here at the KMZU studios and at Norborne High School. LONDON (AP) — Destinee Hooker had 23 points and Jordan Larson added 18 for the top-ranked U.S. volleyball team in a 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21 win over Brazil at the Olympics. The Americans improved to 2-0 in pool play in an early-round rematch of the Beijing Games final won by the Brazilians.

LONDON (AP) — Maggie Steffens scored seven goals in her Olympic debut to lead the United States to a 14-13 win over Hungary in women’s water polo. The 19-year-old showed some sharp shooting from outside for the Americans, who are looking to win their first gold in the event.

LONDON (AP) — Venus and Serena Williams led an American contingent that went 6-0 in Olympic tennis today. The sisters each won singles matches and teamed up for a doubles win. Other American winners included Andy Roddick, John Isner and Varvara Lepchenko.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — NASCAR has approved all four automakers’ redesigned Sprint Cup Series cars, which will debut at the Daytona 500 in February. Series officials have announced that the new Chevrolet SS, Dodge Charger, Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry designs have met the necessary targets for approval based on final aerodynamic tests July 18.
