DALLAS (AP) — The Big 12 says there were problems with the officiating at the end of regulation in the Kansas-Iowa State game Monday night. The conference didn’t identify the two officials involved but says “appropriate measures will be taken” against them. Elijah Johnson of Kansas got tangled up with Iowa State’s Georges Niang in the closing seconds. No foul was called and Niang was then whistled for fouling Johnson on the floor. Johnson sank two free throws to force OT. Kansas won 108-96.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jim Crews and the Saint Louis Billikens are on a roll. They’re ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time this season at number-18 after beating VCU and Butler. They’re leading the Atlantic-10 and have won nine in a row heading into tonight’s game against St. Joseph’s.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia tossed a pair of scoreless innings yesterday in his first game action since hurting his shoulder in the playoffs. He threw 43 pitches — 30 for strikes — and struck out two. St. Louis beat the Boston Red Sox 15-4. Matt Adams homered for the Cardinals.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Billy Butler had a home run and drove in three runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians 4-1 yesterday. Eric Hosmer added an RBI triple. The Royals are unbeaten in spring training play at 4-0-1.
