From the MRVC/I-70 Lafayette County tournament last night the girls took over the court. The top seed Higginsville beat Santa Fe 59 – 26. Number 4 St. Paul topped Lexington 50 – 19. It was the 2 seed Concordia over Knob Noster in the closest game of the night 34 – 31 and number 6 Wellington had no problem with Carrollton winning 52 – 19.

Now on Thursday night for the girls from the Lafayette County tournament Carrollton and Knob Noster match up at 4 o’clock. After that it’s Santa Fe versus Lexington. At 7 Concordia takes on Wellington and the nightcap Thursday from the Lafayette County tournament will feature the top seed Higginsville against St. Paul.

From the Lafayette County tournament today it’s boys action as Concordia and Wellington tip off at 4 this afternoon. After that Lexington takes on St. Paul. The 7 o’clock game features Santa Fe and Carrollton, and the late game matches up the top seed Higginsville against Knob Noster.

The 83rd annual New Franklin tournament continued last night as well. The early game was a girls matchup with New Franklin topping Westran 32 – 18. Jasmyne Boggs had 13 and Aly Hundley added 7 for New Franklin. For Westran leading scorers were Bobbi Dejedly with 7 and Sadie Wilhite added 4 points.

The other girls game from New Franklin last night saw the number 6 seed Sweet Springs upset number 3 Pilot Grove 48 – 34. For Sweet Springs Brittany Higgins had 13 and Breanna Bright added 10. Hailey Bader led the way for Pilot Grove with 17 points.

In boys action at the New Franklin tournament last night Sweet Springs got the win 53 – 38 over Westran. Colby Dohrman led all scorers with 19 for Sweet Springs, who also got 13 points from Christian Stetzenbach. Westran had 15 out of Tyler Barron and 9 from Clay Ames.

The late game last night went to the Pilot Grove boys 62 – 53 over New Franklin. Trevor Day was the top dog with 22 points and Dylan Twenter added 15 for Pilot Grove. New Franklin had 17 points each from Dalton Welbern and Tyler White.


High school basketball continued last night from the 55th annual Braymer Invitational. On the girls side number 3 Braymer had a huge 93 – 28 win over Breckenridge. Carlie Adams had 26 points and Sadie Watson came up with 22 for Braymer. Lauren Robison led the way for Breckenridge with 15 points.

The second girls game was another blowout as number 2 Southwest topped the Maysville JV 82 – 9. For Southwest Cortney Roberts had 22 points with another 18 coming from Sydnee Rounkles.

Moving on to the boys side from Braymer the host team beat Stet 61 – 30. For Braymer Dalton Owen had 17 to lead all scorers. Stet got 10 points from Lane Coldiron.

The top seed Southwest successfully moved out of the opening round with a 46 – 17 win over the Maysville JV. Justin Lewis had 13 points for Southwest and Skyler Zimmerman was the leading scorer from Maysville with 6 points.

The matchups for Wednesday play from Braymer include the Maysville JV taking on Breckenridge twice – the boys go first at 5 followed by the girls at around 6:30…then the final game this evening is a boys matchup between Stet and Norborne.


The Marceline tournament had four games last night. On the girls side it was Marceline 59 Brunswick 24 and Glasgow with a 63 – 30 win over Higbee. For the boys Glasgow topped Brunswick 75 – 19 and Higbee got a 54 – 41 win over Bucklin.

From the Stover tournament last night it was boys action as Marshall beat Tipton 47 – 42 and Osage got post Stover 63 – 53.

At the Otterville Holiday Classic they featured boys matchups as Chilhowee got a 62 – 51 win over Bunceton and Lincoln beat Northwest 53 – 49.

From the Madison Invitational in boys play Salisbury 63 Wellsville 24 and Community 46 Paris 19. On the girls side Salisbury 61 Madison 24 and Community 46 Van-Far 30.
