In high school softball last night Leeton defeated Cole Camp 10 – 4.

Comments from Coach Moore at Leeton: The Lady Bulldogs defeated Cole Camp for the second time in less than a week. This time the victory came in Cole Camp. Megan Uptegrove took the mound picking up the win behind a solid pitching performance striking out 4 while walking only 2. Disciplined hitting and run production proved to be the difference as the Lady Bulldogs pounded out extra base hits after free passes had loaded the bases.

Shianne Sullins went 3 for 3 at the plate with two doubles and 4 RBI’s.

In softball Wellington-Napoleon got a 9 – 8 win over Concordia and on the baseball side it was Santa Fe 3 St. Paul 0.


Norborne Pirate junior golf standout Ross Lyon is headed to the Class 1 state tournament in Nixa. Ross will tee off Monday (5/14) at Fremont Hills. The 36 hole state golf championship tournament is played Monday and Tuesday. Norborne AD Michael Lock will be calling in updates on how Ross does at state.

A Collegiate All-Stars Basketball Clinic is coming to Chillicothe High School May 24th and 25th. The Clinic will emphasize the fundamentals of shooting and ball handling.

Directing the Clinic will be David Devaney, former head college and high school basketball coach in Missouri, and current teacher and coach in the Kansas City area. Current players from the University of Missouri basketball team will also be helping with the Clinic.

The two-day Clinic is co-ed and costs $70 per player. Players going into grades 3 – 6 in the fall of 2012 will have their Clinic from 10am – noon, players going into grades 7 – 12 will be from 2 – 4 p.m. on May 24th and 25th. The fee includes a t-shirt, a basketball and an autography session with the coaches and players. All Clinic sessions will take place at Chillicothe High School.

The sponsoring organization of the Chillicothe Mudcats, Grand River Entertainment, is looking for host families to house the players and coaches. The Chillicothe Mudcats are a wood bat collegiate baseball team, that begins playing near the end of May and their season continues through mid to late July. John Barnes is one of the host families. North Central Missouri College in Trenton accepted the resignation of its women’s softball coach last week, and a regional search is underway to name a replacement. NCMC has a strong women’s softball tradition. The Lady Pirates have finished in second or third place in their Region 16 tournament many times and earned a trip to the NJCAA Division I National Softball Tournament in 2004. Thirty-four players in recent years have been named Academic All-Americans and several have continued their softball careers at four-year universities and into the coaching profession.

The softball coaching position is open immediately. It consists of head coach responsibilities for the softball program along with teaching in the physical education and health areas. It is a full-time tenure-track faculty position.

PHOENIX (AP) — Carlos Beltran homered twice last night and drove in six runs as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1. Beltran hit a two-run homer in the first, then belted his 10th career grand slam in the second. Jake Westbrook pitched seven shutout innings for his fourth win of the season. The Redbirds face the Diamondbacks tonight in Arizona at 8:40.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Billy Butler’s three-run homer in the eighth gave the Kansas City Royals a 6-4 win over the Boston Red Sox last night. Chris Getz and Humberto Quintero also drove in runs for the Royals. Reliever Jose Mijares earned the win and Jonathan Broxton picked up his sixth save. The Royals host the Red Sox again tonight at 7:10.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals have recalled right-hander Vin Mazzaro from Triple-A. The team made the move before yesterday’s game against Boston. Kansas City optioned left-hander Tommy Hottovy to Triple-A Omaha to make room for Mazzaro.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have signed defensive end Ropati Pitoitua. The Chiefs announced the move yesterday. Pitoitua was a free agent after playing the past two seasons with the New York Jets.
