Squirrel season opens Saturday and the Missouri Department of Conservation wants hunters to be safe and know the regulations.
Click to hear KMZU’s Brad Hartman talk with Missouri Department of Conservation Spokesperson Joe Jerek:
Jerek says hunters can use cage-type traps, as long as they label traps with their full name and address, or their Conservation number.
Squirrel traps also must have openings measuring 144 square inches or less, for instance, 12 inches by 12 inches.
Jerek says hunters can use a bow, shotgun or rifle to hunt.
He also says only 20 squirrels can be in possession of the hunters, after the limit is met, they must eat or give away some squirrels before going hunting again.
