LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Police have identified a man who died in the median of 291 Highway near I-470 in Lee’s Summit Saturday evening.
According to a news release from the Lee’s Summit Police Department, the victim has been identified as Cody M. Harter, 24, of St. Joseph.
KMZU News reported Saturday morning that Harter was stabbed in the chest following what is believed to have been a road rage incident around 7:30 p.m. on 291 Highway near the I-470 merger in Lee’s Summit.
Multiple witnesses told police they saw what was a possible road rage incident around the time of the stabbing. A vehicle had reportedly stopped in front of the victim’s pick-up truck and the suspect and victim were seen arguing outside their vehicles.
At some point during the altercation, Harter received a single stab wound to the chest. He then made his way back onto the highway and into traffic where he died in the inner median.
There is no description of the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle, however it is believed the assailant fled north on Interstate 470.
Harter’s vehicle is described as a maroon extended cab Chevrolet Silverado truck, pictured above, which had a zero-turn lawn mower in its bed during the incident.
Lee’s Summit Police are asking for the public’s assistance in finding Harter’s killer, encouraging anyone who was in the area of I-470 and 291 Highway around 7:30 p.m. Saturday to report any information that may be relevant to their investigation.
