Firefighters battled a blaze in downtown Higginsville for more than four hours Tuesday afternoon. The fire is believed to have started in the back of an old two-story shop on 22nd Street around 2:30 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found smoke pouring from the building, which was said to have housed farm equipment.  Officials on scene said the amount of chemicals inside the structure complicated their efforts. No injuries have been reported at this time.

The Corder Fire Department assisted in fighting the fire.
