Press Release from the Bothwell Regional Health Center

June 19, 2013
Healthy U, a community health and wellness initiative, has established a series of monthly activities designed to get community members moving in ways they may not have tried.

The program, called Moving 101, will meet at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month from June to October. The first event will be on June 20 at Bothwell Lodge State Park where participants will hike the Radiant Trail.

“We want to provide an opportunity for the community to come together for a physical activity that they may not have tried. Many people don’t know about some of the wonderful resources we have in our community that support an active lifestyle,” said Sarah Nail, community outreach coordinator at Bothwell Regional Health Center and chairwoman of the Healthy Living Action Group, which is responsible for Healthy U. “Moving 101 is about giving people a reason to try an activity for the first time, or maybe do something they haven’t done in a while, with the hope that they will enjoy it enough to do it again.”

The first Moving 101 activity at Bothwell Lodge will be a group hike of a 2.5-3 mile trail. Participants can move at their own pace. A shorter, nature walk for children will also be available.

All Moving 101 activities will include an activity for children, if they are unable to participate with their parents. The events are free and open to the public.

Upcoming Moving 101 events include: July 18, water exercises at Centennial Park Pool; Aug. 15, Zumba, St. Paul’s Lutheran School Gym; Sept. 19, mini family fitness challenge, Katy Park; Oct., to be announced.
