Details of a multi-county car chase have been released.
The Ray County Sheriff’s Office reports Independence Police Officers engaged in a pursuit with three suspects wanted on traffic and drug charges. The vehicle eventually entered Ray County, where the car was disabled and the occupants fled on foot.
Authorities apprehended a male and female suspect at the scene, but a third suspect continued through a wooded area. He later took a vehicle from a woman at gunpoint. That Jeep was soon located in the Henreitta area, and law enforcement officers again engaged in a pursuit, and deployed “stop sticks.” The vehicle was disabled near Highway 210, and Jesse James Jones, 20, was found in a nearby ditch.
Jones has been charged in Ray County with a total of six felonies and one misdemeanor. He is facing one count each of robbery, armed criminal action, tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. A misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana has also been filed. Bond is set at $100,000, cash only.
A pre-emptory docket hearing is scheduled for October 22nd at 8:30 a.m.

On October 6, 2013 at approximately 4 P.M. Ray County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a vehicle pursuit entering Ray County that had started in Independence, Missouri. A Chevrolet Malibu entered eastbound into Ray County on Highway 210 at an excessive rate of speed. Independence Police Officers were pursuing the vehicle for traffic and drug charges. The vehicle ran over “stop sticks”, initiated by MSHP Trooper, at Highway 210 and Missouri State EE in Ray County. The vehicle proceeded to a residence on Highway 10 near Richmond, Missouri where it ran through a barbed wire fence. Two males and a female ran on foot from that location. A foot pursuit was initiated by a Ray County Deputies and Independence Officers. One male driver and a female were apprehended at that location and turned over to Independence Officers for their charges. The second male continued through a field and a wooded area to a residence on 92nd Street. At that location he took a Jeep Liberty from a female victim at gunpoint. Ray County Deputies and State Troopers located that vehicle in the Henrietta area and they pursued that vehicle through the south west portion of the county. That stolen vehicle ran over “stop sticks” at Highway T and Southpoint Drive. The pursuit ended when the subject in the stolen Jeep drove into a corn field and wooded area near highway 210 and Bruns Road. The suspect was discovered by a Ray County Deputies in a ditch near Bruns Road.
The suspect Jesse James Jones, Independence was charged with 1st Degree Robbery- A Felony, Armed Criminal Action- Unclassified Felony, Tampering with a Motor vehicle- C Felony, (2) counts of Possession of a controlled substance- C Felony each, Resisting arrest- D Felony and Possession of up to (35) grams of Marijuana- A Misdemeanor. Bond is $100,000. Cash only with special bond conditions
The Kansas City Police Helicopter, Missouri Highway Patrol Troopers from two counties, Independence Police Department, Richmond Police Department and Ray County Deputies were involved in the pursuit and investigation.
Ray County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone that all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
