Tax assistance in being offered in Chillicothe beginning Wednesday. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to RSVP Director Patty Mefford:
Although they will help anyone with questions, the program is geared towards those over 65 years of age. “We work with AARP and our volunteers fill our forms for the Missouri Property Tax Credit, as well as regular state and federal tax forms,” said Mefford,” The only things we cannot do are farm and business schedules.”
Many area seniors are expected to qualify for the Missouri Property Tax Credit and should come prepared with the necessary documents. “They need to bring their social security 1099 or a 1099 for any other income they may have, such as interest from the bank,”said Mefford,” They will also need a copy of their real estate taxes if they own their home. If they rent, they will need a receipt from the landlord with his or her name and identification number.”
Appointments are available from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each Wednesday through April 10th. No walk-ins will be accepted. Those interested may contact the RSVP office at 660-646-0010.
