PULASKI COUNTY, Mo. — According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an 18-year old lost his life when his vehicle was swept away by flash flood waters in the early hours of Sunday in Pulaski County.

An incident report indicates that the accident happened when Gideon Jenkins, 18, of Richland, was traveling on Buffalo Road, about two miles west of Crocker in Pulaski County.

An investigation by the Highway Patrol found that Jenkins drowned when he attempted to cross a low water crossing at about 1:53 a.m. Sunday when his vehicle was unable to navigate the deluge of water caused by heavy rains in the area and across the state over the past few days.

The Pulaski County deputy coroner pronounced the Richland teen dead at approximately 7:00 a.m. Sunday.

Drivers are reminded that if there is water over the roadway, they should not attempt to navigate through it, instead they should turn around and find an alternative route.
