JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. — A crash on Interstate 70 just after midnight Sunday morning sent three people to an area hospital with injuries.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred as a vehicle driven by Greenwood resident Patrick Powell, 28, and a second car driven by  Georgia A. Cunningham, 47, of Lee’s Summit, were westbound at about 12:12 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 70 just west of the 17.8 mile marker when Powell overtook Cunningham’s vehicle and struck the car in its rear.

The impact caused Cunningham’s vehicle to go off the right side of the road and overturn. A passenger, Doss Cunningham, 45, of Lee’s Summit, received minor injuries. Georgia and another occupant, Matthew Cunningham, 16, also of Lee’s Summit, suffered moderate injuries.

All three were taken by ambulance to Centerpoint Hospital for treatment.
