BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Three people were seriously injured in an early morning wreck in Jackson County after 19-year-old driver Stephen Bultemeier attempted to pass another vehicle on westbound I-70 near Blue Springs by using the shoulder. Bultemeier struck an unoccupied vehicle on the side of the road, causing his vehicle to roll several times, ultimately ejecting himself and his passengers, 21-year-old Randall Gallagher and 19-year-old Austin Minturn, from the vehicle. None of the men were wearing seat belts. Bultemeier was taken to Research Hospital in Kansas City for treatment, and both Gallagher and Minturn were transported to Centerpoint Hospital in Independence.
