COOPER COUNTY, Mo. — A crash on State Highway 5 in Cooper County left a driver from Syracuse hurt Friday morning.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the single-vehicle wreck occurred on Highway 5, about eight-tenths of a mile south of Leonard Cutoff Road around 6:10 a.m. Friday.

A semi driven by 38-year-old Phillip J. Stemberger was northbound on 5 when Stemberger swerved to avoid a deer crossing the roadway.

The maneuver caused the truck to run off the left side of the roadway. It then struck a fence and a tree.

Stemberger refused treatment for minor injuries at the scene of the accident.
