Each year during the Thanksgiving season the President of the United States pardons a turkey, keeping it off a Thanksgiving table.  This year will be no different as President Obama is scheduled to pardon the National Thanksgiving Turkey in a ceremony in the Rose Garden Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. This year’s National Thanksgiving Turkey and its alternate were raised on AgForte farm in Willmar, Minnesota.
After the pardoning, the turkeys will be driven to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens where they will be on display for visitors during “Christmas at Mount Vernon,” a special program through January 6.  They will then retire to Mount Vernon’s nationally recognized livestock facility.
