ST. JOSEPH, Mo.– Two suspects charged in the shooting death of 18-year-old Skylar Powell appeared in court this morning. Powell was found dead May 18, 2016 in St. Joseph after a botched drug deal.
Ashten Surritte, 19, and Kyle Smith, 25, appeared for hearings, which were both rescheduled to a later date. Surritte is charged with one count of attempted robbery in the first degree and Smith is charged with distributing, manufacturing or producing or attempt to or possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution.
Smith is currently out of custody after posting bond and Surritte is currently in custody at the Buchanan County Law Enforcement Center on a $20,000 bond. Both individuals are scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 6th at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph.
