COLUMBIA, Mo— MU’s flagship campus in Columbia is again facing strife as racial tensions come to a head.
CAIR-STL, or the St. Louis Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, plans to announce at 11 a.m. today, December 16, 2015, the lawsuit which has been filed against a Mizzou professor accused of making ethnically intimidating and sexually motivated remarks to Muslim student, Fatma El-Walid.
The lawsuit indicates the Professor of Cell Biology, Michael Garcia, made remarks such as “Did your parents water board you in preparation for the future” and would you “rather be a with and experienced man, like myself, for one raucous night rather than having relations with 72 virgins.”
On one occasion, El-Walid recalled asking Garcia about another professor’s class and practices. At that point El-Walid claims Garcia told her to ask the professor herself and that if he did not respond to rip open her jacket, exposing an explosive device and say “Allahu Akbar.”
Reports indicate Garcia was serving as the Minority Affairs Committee Chair at the time of the incidents.
KMZU will bring you more information as the press conference gets underway.
