UPDATE: (12/01/18, 11:26 p.m.) – Columbia Police say they have a man in custody after shots were fired near a church during a funeral. Authorities did not say if the gunfire was related to the funeral of Ahmonta Harris. Harris was shot when officials say he unlawfully enter a home and was shot by one of the residents. The Police Department said they are holding John Kenneth Cosey, Jr., 18, for unlawfully discharging a firearm. Witnesses told police that at least seven shots were fired outside the Christian Fellowship Church, just before 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Authorities are investigating after shots were fired outside the Columbia church where Ahmonta Harris funeral was taking place.
Harris was shot by a resident after he unlawfully entered the home according to police. The Columbia Police Department said, there were no reported injuries at the Christian Fellowship Church, that was full to capacity at the time. Witnesses reported hearing about seven shots around 4:00 p.m., outside the church.
The funeral is over and officials say there is no immediate threat as the investigation continues.
