UPDATE: (06/06/18/, 11:25 p.m.) – A crash on westbound Interstate 70 near Bates City, reported Wednesday by KMZU, has turned out to be a fatal crash.

A report posted by the Missouri Highway Patrol says the crash occurred when a truck driven by 47 year old David A. Seward of Odessa, struck the rear portion of a second tractor trailer driven by 61 year old Timothy Meier of Topeka, Ks., around 3 p.m. The cab of Seward’s truck was totally destroyed.

Seward was transported to Centerpoint Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Meier was not injured during the crash.

UPDATE:  5:30 p.m. Impact was reported at approximately 3:16 p.m.  Initial reports indicate one person may have died as a result of the crash. MoDot officials say the debris could by cleared by 7:45 p.m. Traffic is reportedly backed up from exit 31 for several miles west.

BATES CITY, MO – LifeFlight is reportedly being sent to the scene of a crash involving two tractor-trailer units near Oak Grove on I-70 near the 28- mile marker.

According to eyewitnesses, the cab of one truck is nearly destroyed. Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed the crash, saying the westbound lanes are blocked. No reports have been received regarding persons involved, or extent of injuries.
