UPDATE: (07/15/2017 10:10 p.m.) – Sgt. Chris Depue, Lee’s Summit Police Department Public Information Unit Supervisor, has released the name of the deceased from this morning’s motorcycle crash in Lee’s Summit.
The victim has been identified as Ryan A. Prince, 34, from Raymore, MO.
Investigation of the accident will continue Monday, but at this point it appears very clear that the other driver was making a left turn on a green light and the motorcyclist ran a red light and impacted the driver’s door at a high rate of speed. No citations have been issued.
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — A motorcyclist was killed in a two vehicle accident this morning at 1:30 a.m. that occurred on the northbound off ramp from 291 Highway onto Northeast Colbern Road near Lee’s Summit.
According to a press release from the Lee’s Summit Police Department the victim was traveling eastbound on Northeast Colbern Road, on a motorcycle, when he struck the other vehicle that was making a left turn from the off ramp onto the westbound lanes of Colbern Road.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene the other vehicle driver received minor injuries.
Initial investigation, by local authorities, indicates that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and may have failed to yield to the vehicles at the light that was green. The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
