UPDATE: 08/08/2017 8:09:15 a.m.- Radio dispatch audio offers insight into the chaos that followed the fatal shooting of Clinton Police Officer Gary Michael.
The Associated Press obtained an audio recording of police dispatches in the moments surrounding the shooting.
Michael had stopped a 2008 Dodge Nitro for a registration violation Sunday night. Ten seconds later came word that shots were fired and an officer was struck.
An officer requested an ambulance “immediately.” An emergency worker advised that the officer had been shot twice in the chest and was in cardiac arrest.
Ian McCarthy remains on the loose but has been charged with first-degree murder. Authorities are now searching for McCarthy in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Kansas as well as the continued search in Missouri
UPDATE: 08/07/2017 11:09:00 a.m.- Ian McCarthy has yet to be located as the manhunt continues in the Clinton, Mo., area but formal charges have been officially filed in Henry County.
According to court records, the Henry County Prosecuting Attorney prepared an arrest warrant on charges of felony first-degree murder and felony armed criminal action.
McCarthy will not have the option of bond.
UPDATE: 08/07/2017 10:11:45 a.m.- According to a release from the MSHP, Officer Gary Michael, 37, was transported to Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton, Missouri, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The report also indicates the suspect vehicle was later recovered approximately two blocks south of the initial shooting. The suspect remains at large and the public is advised against making contact with McCarthy, who is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of McCarthy should contact law enforcement, call 911 or dial *55 on a cellular phone.
Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, the Clinton Police Department, and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate. Officers from all three departments are currently searching for McCarthy.
UPDATE: 08/07/2017 9:46:50 a.m.- News reports indicate authorities searched a home but came up empty-handed in the hunt for Ian McCarthy in the fatal shooting of a Clinton Police Officer.

CLINTON, Mo.- An active manhunt is underway for a Clinton man who allegedly shot and killed a Clinton Police officer late last night.
Authorities indicate a suspicious vehicle was stopped near Green and 2nd Street around 10:45 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2017. At some point during the stop the suspect pulled a gun and shot the officer. The report indicates that the officer was able to draw his weapon but it is unknown if the suspect is injured.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ian McCarthy, 39, of Clinton, Mo., is identified as the suspect and authorities believe he may still be in the area. McCarthy’s vehicle was found nearby and multiple law enforcement agencies have set up city-wide checkpoints. McCarthy is believed to be armed and dangerous.
The report identifies the officer as Gary Michael, 37, of Clinton, Mo., who had been with the department for almost a year.
