UPDATE: 9/19/2020, 3:38 p.m. — Highway 65 south of Chillicothe is now open after a shorter than expected delay.
CHILLICOTHE — Although it was projected to reopen this morning, Highway 65 south of Chillicothe will remain closed until 6 p.m. Saturday night.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, the repairs done on the Grand River Bridge replacement project overnight are not strong enough to support traffic and need more time to cure. Contractors hope to have the route reopen by tonight, however until then drivers should use the signed detour along Routes Z, C, DD, D and U.S. Route 36.
Route C between Route Z and U.S. 36 will remain closed to all but local traffic until 65 reopens, according to the release.
When reopened, 65 will be open to only one lane with an 11.5-foot restriction put in place. Contractors plan to have the bridge open to two lanes in early December.
