CHILLICOTHE, Mo. – A press release sent Tuesday, rom the Chillicothe Police Department,is warning residents of Chillicothe and surrounding areas of a scam targeting them.
A scammer has been calling residents claiming he is with Chillicothe Municipal Utilities, threatening to cut services off without immediate payment by check, debit or credit card. The press release went on to say that CMU does not conduct collection activities in this manner or take payments over the phone.
The scammer, who has a Middle Eastern accent, call from the telephone number 816-394-9218 or 800-981-4002. The CPD urges you to not give any personal information to anyone if you are unsure if the call is in fact real. If you receive a phone call from the scammer, hang up on him.
