BOONVILLE, MO – A reported scam that urges victims to provide money through the purchase of a prepaid debit card, is circulating the area according to law enforcement.

Boonville police say, callers are claiming to be from electricity providers, who threaten to shut off electricity before asking the potential victim to purchase the prepaid card, and then ask for the PIN number.

Police advise, business is not usually conducted in this fashion. Residents should hang up, and call the business using the publicized number.
