LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MO – Fire crews extinguished a car fire Thursday afternoon in rural Livingston county.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene of CR 235, south of CR 256 to a car fully engulfed in flames, which was blocking the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, Ian Smith of Chillicothe, stated he suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns attempting to recover property from the car. He refused medical treatment on scene. Two occupants were uninjured. Smith claimed smoke began emanating from the back seat, and items under the driver’s seat eventually caught on fire. Crews extinguished a majority of the fire in minutes, but experienced difficulty with an apparent oil burn underneath the vehicle.
