CARROLLTON, Mo. — The Carrollton Middle School and High School would like to invite the public, especially our local veterans, to attend the annual Veterans Day Assembly. This year the assembly will be held on Friday, November 10th. The assembly will be held in the high school gymnasium starting at 9:30 a.m. The assembly will last approximately one hour.
Mike Haffner is our special guest speaker this year. Mike Haffner was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio. After graduating from college he joined the Navy. During his 20 year distinguished aviation career, Commander Mike “Speedy” Haffner has logged more than 840 aircraft carrier landings and flown over 3,100 hours in five different aircraft including the A 6 Intruder and the FA 18 Hornet.
Commander Haffner has extensive combat experience. He has been personally recognized for extraordinary heroism by being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the highest award an aviator can achieve. He also has been awarded four individual Air Medals and three Navy Commendation Medals for his uncommon valor and bold initiative during extreme combat operations.
Commander Haffner also commanded an FA 18 Hornet Squadron. He was responsible for over 230 men and women on an extended combat deployment. In that role as Commanding Officer, his squadron was recognized by all of Naval Aviation as the best attack squadron in the United States Navy.
He has also appeared numerous times on the Discovery Channel as an air operations combat expert and most notably he was the principle pilot interviewed for a segment of the Desert Storm four-part series titled, “Wings Over the Gulf.”
He retired from the Navy in 2002 and now lives in Pleasant Hill Missouri with his wife Teresa. Together they have raised three children and own Pumpkins and Pines, a Christmas Tree Farm where he continues to serve.
A complimentary luncheon will follow the assembly in the Trojan Café and will be provided to all veterans and their guests. You may register prior to the assembly by calling the middle school office at (660) 542-3472 or you may also register the day of the assembly as you enter the high school gymnasium.
