A VFW post in Chariton County is collecting money to move to a new building. Click to hear KMZU’s Chelsea Wade speak with Commander Larry Box:
“We’re going to have a chicken dinner. We’re going to have a 50/50 drawing. We have a gun and a quilt we’re raffling off,” said Box, “And we’ve went to area businesses and got donations. And our auctioneer, Ben Iman, will be auctioning them off.”
What is raised will be used for a new roof and minor repairs. The nonprofit group typically uses any income for charity work.
“We’re the Veterans of Foreign War. And we help our veterans get their benefits and disability, if they need them. We go to area nursing homes a Christmastime, and give out candy and fruit to the occupants. We have 12 meetings a year to discuss donations. We’re a nonprofit, so we give all of our money away.”
The event will get underway around 10:00 at the Keytesville post.
