An eastbound Amtrak passenger train struck and killed a Sedalia resident Saturday afternoon. Reports indicate the individual was near the tracks taking photographs when they were struck and killed.

Sedalia authorities are identifying the victim as Johnathan Eade. He was killed while under a Highway 50 overpass o the east side of the city about 12:50 p.m. There were no reported injuries to the nearly 80 passengers and crew aboard.

The train was allowed to depart for its destination a little less than 2 hours after the incident due to a mechanical inspection. It was en route from Kansas City to St. Louis on the “Missouri River Runner” route.

The line that the accident occurred on is owned by Union Pacific Railways, who reportedly experienced delays due to the incident.
