Ritchie conferred with the director of probation and parole about a trend in offenders. They concluded warm weather this spring allowed for greater opportunity to violate probation.
Ritchie said nearly one-third of those sent to the Department of Corrections were drug offenders. According to her report, those incarcerated for drug offenses receive treatment while behind bars in an effort to reduce repeat offenders, but sometimes that is not enough. Despite the trend, She stressed that people are given the chance to get it right.
