Planting progress is moving right along and ahead of average in Missouri. According to the latest Crop Progress report from the Missouri Ag Statistics Service 23 percent of the corn crop has been planted. That’s 8 days ahead of last year and twelve ahead of average.
Just one percent of the sorghum crop is seeded. Winter wheat development is also well ahead of schedule with 31-percent of the crop headed and beyond. That’s 25 days ahead of last year, and four weeks ahead of normal. Condition of the wheat crop is rated 2 percent poor, 22 percent fair and 76 percent good to excellent.
The nice weather has also allowed farmers to ease up on hay this time of year and turn animals out to pasture. As of Sunday the state’s pasture condition was rated 6 percent poor to very poor, 26 percent fair and 68 percent good to excellent.
