Tom Gang

LEXINGTON, Mo. (Press Release)– Tom Gang, an athletic administrator with more than two decades of experience in coaching and sports leadership, has been named the Director of Athletics at Wentworth Military Academy & College.

Gang has served as the Interim Director of Athletics for Wentworth since July, also stepping in as the Head Coach for the high school football team during the fall season. Gang made a splash early with the hiring of two head coaches and the addition of two new college programs during his seven-month interim period. He will also be the lead of the new recruitment efforts for the department, which includes populating the campus with at least 150 college athletes for the 2017-18 seasons.

President/Superintendent COL (H) Michael Lierman stated, “Tom has made a difference in our athletic department already in just a few short months. His experience and his knowledge in athletics is a huge plus for our program. His organizational skills and leadership has raised the bar for our athletic department. Tom, spends a lot of time working with the student athletes not just on the sport they are playing but for life skills. We look forward to continuing to grow our programs and have them be more competitive.”

In his new role, Gang will plan, evaluate, and implement all athletic long-range goals and activities in addition to overseeing the management of: Wentworth’s high school and college athletic programs, staff and professional development, budgets, and fundraising. In addition Gang will represent the athletic department and handle compliance efforts with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XVI, United Stats Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), and the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA).

Gang has achieved success developing and directing a number of collegiate athletic programs. He spent eight years as assistant professor, athletic director, and head football coach at Mendocino College in Calif., where his accomplishments included several Coach of the Year honors and three conference championship titles. While serving in athletic administration at Mendocino College and Sierra College in Calif., Gang was responsible for the management of all intercollegiate athletic activities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as the appropriate implementation of policies such as Title IX. Additionally, he spearheaded fundraising initiatives and maintained positive relations between the school and the community. Gang is also a former member of the American Football Coaches Association, and belonged to the California Community Colleges Football Coaches Association where he served as the President in 2010.
