An accident around 4:00 Thursday afternoon shut down the westbound lane of I-70 near the Higginsville Junction.  The Highway Patrol reports the freight liner driven by Cesar Benitez, 51, of Overland Park, Kansas, was stopped in the left lane when Brett Shamblin, 27, of Champange, Illinois drifted over from the right lane and struck the trailer portion of Benitez’s vehicle.  Shamblin was taken by helicopter to Centerpoint Hospital with serious injuries.  Benitez was not injured.  The investigation continues.
