UPDATE: 3/12 – The Buchanan County Commission approved a total wind turbine ban, Thursday, at the behest of the Planning and Zoning Commission, according to St. Joseph News Press.
BUCHANAN COUNTY, MO – A recent vote by Buchanan County Planning and Zoning Commission suggests wind turbines are not popular with residents.
According to St. Joseph News Press, the Planning and Zoning Commission, Wednesday, voted to essentially ban the turbines.
One commissioner stated there was no support for the structures in past public hearings on the matter. The county was also said to be too urban for consideration of turbines. A Florida company, Next Era, had been looking to build turbines in the county.
The split two-thirds vote against commercial wind turbines was reportedly applauded by visitors at the meeting.
The ban proposal is also scheduled to come before the County Commission.
