MACON COUNTY, Mo. — A witness is said to have pulled out a driver who crashed into the Chariton River Friday morning.
Troopers worked this 1 car crash on 36 this afternoon resulting in the SUV completely submerged. A passerby witnessed the crash, stopped, and was able to remove the driver from the SUV while it was sinking in the Chariton River. Highway Patrol reports 59-year-old Stephanie Bressen of Springfield, Ill. drove off the left side of Highway 36 and into the river around noon Friday.
An unidentified passerby saw the crash and pulled Bressen out of the river as the vehicle was sinking.
She was taken to Samaritan Hospital in Macon for treatment of serious injuries.
