MO Highway patrolA breaking news story brought to you by KMZU News Wednesday afternoon has a few more details to offer.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Norman Thomas, 78, of Huntsville, was driving westbound on U.S. 24 in Chariton County when he attempted to pass another westbound vehicle driven by Dennis Henke, 47, of Salisbury. The Thomas vehicle struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Helen Peters, 73, of Keytesville.

That sent Norman’s vehicle back into the westbound lanes where it was struck by Henke’s. Henke was uninjured.

Peters was moderately injured while Thomas suffered serious injuries. They were both taken to University Hospital for treatment.

U.S. 24 was shut down for approximately one hour while crews cleared the wreckage.
