CLAY COUNTY, Mo. – An 8 year old from Kearney is in serious condition after a wrong way driver hit the car he was riding in early Sunday morning.
The collision took place around 12:10 a.m., on northbound Interstate 35, near the intersection of Highway 291. The online report from the Missouri Highway Patrol says Joshua West, 36, was northbound on Interstate 35 when a southbound vehicle driven by Madison Mortallaro, 20, of Smithville, struck West head on. Nathaniel West, age 8, was transported to Liberty Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Mortallaro is accused of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, driving while intoxicated by drugs, driving on wrong side of divided highway, no insurance and expired plates.
