SANAA, Yemen (AP) — At least three people are dead after security forces in Yemen opened fire on anti-government protesters today.
The shootings are adding to international concern about the unrest in Yemen. The United Nations Security Council met late today to discuss the deteriorating situation there.
Rights groups say two months of protests calling for the president of Yemen to step down have claimed 120 lives.
A Yemeni government delegation today headed to the United Arab Emirates for talks with the Gulf Cooperation Council over a proposal for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to transfer power to his deputy. The opposition held similar talks Sunday in Saudi Arabia.
Opponents of Saleh say they will settle for nothing less than his immediate departure.
