SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Over the weekend, Yemen’s president agreed to a proposal that would see him give up power — but that hasn’t stopped the protests demanding his immediate ouster.

And today, there are reports of more bloodshed.

Activists says forces loyal to President Ali Abdullah Saleh (AH’-lee ahb-DUH’-luh sah-LEH’) fired on protesters at demonstrations around the country today, killing two people and wounding dozens more.

After two months of near-daily protests, Saleh agreed to a formula offered by Arab mediators for him to transfer power to his vice president within 30 days of signing a deal. In exchange, he and his sons would be given immunity from prosecution.

While a coalition of seven opposition parties accepted the agreement with reservations, thousands of protesters remain camped in the streets of the capital. Their leaders say they suspect Saleh is just maneuvering to buy time, as he has done in the past.
